Self Tarot Reading

I used an adjusted Celtic Cross spread to do this reading.  I’ll post another article or two describing my procedure, but here is what I got out of the reading:

The Tower

The Tower

1. The Tower – This is a very important card to be in this position.  In the story of the Trump cards, this is the Fool’s jumping off point.  This is where he gives up a part of himself in order to continue his quest.  The temptations of the Devil must be sacrificed in order to take the plunge into the mystical way of the Star.

What this card says to me is: “You are the change which needs to happen.  You already have it inside you, and you’re ready to take the next step.  You have all the knowledge; you’ve seen all possible paths.  Now, ‘it’s time to trust my instincts, close my eyes – and leap!’”

The Hierophant

The Hierophant

2. The Hierophant – Although it is a second Trump card right away, all I think it means is that things are aligning in my life right now, and all things are magnified.  Put simply: fate is involved in this reading.  The card itself has a simple meaning.  I heard the words almost before I saw the card: “Your faith in yourself is all that holds you back.”

The Queen of Cups

The Queen of Cups

3. The Queen of Cups (Reversed) – Repressed emotions, sometimes due to intoxication.  The woman in the card seems to be longing for this magical elixer to make her feel better, but it’s only temporary.  This card tells me that I’m stuffing my true feelings down.  I guess that’s true, but I often forget when I repress…and the possible use of intoxication to achieve this…yeah…not just possible.  It’s a sad fact I’ve been reminded of frequently these passed few days.

The Chariot

The Chariot

4. The Chariot (Reversed) – A third Trump, but it loses some of it’s luster by being reversed.  The Chariot represents confidence, knowledge, direction, purpose – and I feel like I do have all those things.  However, reversed in the position of “Physical Thought” tells me, again, there are doubts plaguing the mind.  This seems to be the message throughout the “Life Line” of the reading.  I have everything going for me right now.  It is not the time to rest on my laurels.  “Address the issues and what you seek will be found.”  Three Trumps in my “Life Line.”  Sounds like fate to me.

The Emperor

The Emperor

5. The Emperor – In the passed I’ve ruled my life by absolutes, for the Emperor is an absolute ruler.  Interesting, another Trump card, and at the opening of the “Heart Line.”  The Emperor suggests in the passed I’ve made decisions by consulting a single source – myself.  The Emperor has many advisers, but ultimately relies on only himself for any of his undertakings.  I must consult the next card before I can fully define this one.  All these Trumps…my life reflects a book of changes in this reading.

Two of Pentacles

Two of Pentacles

6. The Two of Pentacles – “In the future lies temptation.”  The Two of Pentacles show me exactly that.  The temptations which, I assume, are the same as those referred to by the Queen of Cups, will still linger on as I progress.  Taking the whole “Heart Line” into consideration, the message it gives is this:  “The knowledge and self reliance of the past does not lent itself to right thinking when obscured by self doubt and will only lead to more frequent relinquishment to the will of temptation and your shadow self.”  I am governed by these changed in my life right now, and the path will only remain a certainty with clear thought.  The self reliance in the Emperor is not portrayed as negative, but will only reinforce the power I drive with towards my goals.  However, like all things, can cause as much damage as it can create in a muddied mind.

Three of Swords

Three of Swords

7. The Three of Swords (Reversed) – Absolute failure.  “The fear of giving up one’s life for something and not obtaining it is represented here.”  A part of me doesn’t believe I’ve given up anything much.  Time, which is all we really have – and none of us know how much of it we’ve got – is all I have given to this dream of mine.  That, and a shit-ton of magic and imagination.  I suppose those are the two most important commodities of mine.  I guess that is right.  Time and imagination is all I am made of, and my biggest fear is that it will be wasted.

Six of Swords

Six of Swords

8. The Six of Swords (Reversed) – “A sense of rising above movies you forward.”  Most defintiely true.  And two Swords – both reversed…lots of air – lots of change…change which I am resisting a bit…probably due to the repression in the Queen of Swords, and the doubts in the Chariot, and the lack of faith in the Hierophant.

Nine of Wands

Nine of Wands

9. The Nine of Wands – There are highly creative foces at work here.  First all the Trumps.  Now a sequence of threes building on each other.  Three of Swords, Six of Swords, Nine of Wands.  The Air of the Swords stokes the Fire of the Wands.  The card itself is highly creative and suggests there is an external force which drives me to complete my task.  This is not all that different from what Annie told me yesterday.  I am not delusional.  This is destiny calling.  Interestingly enough, the Italian word for wands is Bastoni.  Bastian being the character name of the fictional character from “The Neverending Story,” whom I most identify with at present.

Seven of Wands

Seven of Wands

10. The Seven of Wands – There is a myth this card has called to mind, but I’m not remembering the lead’s name.  Orpheus?  He goes into the underworld and needs to leave without looking back in order to have his love with him in life once again.  In this card lies a suggestion (possibly connected to the doubts of the Chariot.  The are both 7’s).  “Cease these thoughts of the wicked past.  Don’t turn back.  Your love is with you.  Doubts and fears only aid in temptation and lengthen creation in time.  The tools for success are in your hands.”  I want to note another Wand card, again suggestiong highly creative processes at work, and stricking a blanace with the two former Swords.  There are also decorative dragons “guarding” this card…maybe a reference to our project.

Three of Cups

Three of Cups

11. The Three of Cups (Reversed) – “Not what you expect.”
